Who is Louis Giordano?

You are who you are,
you can’t take that away,
— says Giordano

Louis Giordano wanted to be an artist since the age of four. While Giordano knew he was naturally gifted, he always gravitated towards technically acquired art skills. He has learned and apprenticed under a multitude of extremely talented fine artists, including past professors he still remains in contact with today. Occasionally exploring parts of the country and learning from different artists has helped expand his horizons and his artistic range. Giordano states that fatherhood has remained a vital source of inspiration, and his children are often present in his paintings.

Giordano has a positive and euphoric outlook on life as well as a strong sense of self that is naturally present in his work.

He is often taken aback by the spectrum of emotions a single print can elicit from people of different ages and walks of life. Giordano enjoys developing his own interpretation by crossing the boundaries of traditional art techniques and embracing whatever the process calls for.

History

Louis Giordano was born in New Jersey City, NJ, and settled in Scottsdale, AZ, at the age of 10, where he went on to earn his BFA at Arizona State University. Throughout his life in New Jersey and Arizona, Giordano admired the architecture and mid-century design that surged during the 60s and marked such a time of growth. Influenced by the contrast between the vertical nature of the Manhattan skyline (including the Empire State Building) and the horizontal nature of the Desert Southwest (including Taliesin West), Giordano enjoyed being part of the boom and living in a period when mid-century design was prevalent.

Through the decades, Louis Giordano has sought to learn from a multitude of extremely talented fine artists. Giordano refuses to be bound by industry expectations often placed on traditional artists and has merged different techniques to develop his own unique fine art style.

While Giordano is experienced in a variety of art forms such as painting and photography, he is drawn to the immediacy that comes with working with certain inks and acrylics in printmaking.

Part of Giordano’s process includes understanding the potential interpretations his audience can gain from each piece. Critical understanding of color concepts within each of his print works plays a major role in the course of his career and success.

Silkscreen Printing

The extremely difficult and highly technical multi-step process of silkscreen printing is astonishing. For Louis Giordano, it begins with photographing buildings and objects that call to him, followed by digital photo editing—all before generating plates by hand and beginning the screen printing process.

Giordano is notorious for his process of carving out intricate details within his prints, which can take anywhere from ten to over forty hours. Many of Giordano’s works are Many of Giordano's works are considered exceptional because they include over one thousand “pulls” (several hundred more pulls than most silkscreen print artists typically do).  A combination of inks Louis Giordano prepares by hand and and assortment of print mediums add a special element to his uniquely crafted work.
